Two recent developments tell that story.

Within three weeks of each other, two announcements signaled where logistics is heading. On June 22, UPS Healthcare announced a $48 million investment to expand its global cold chain network. Then, from July 12–14, leaders at the inaugural Port Laredo Global Trade Summit outlined a vision for AI-enabled trade infrastructure, cross-border collaboration, and North America's next generation of distribution hubs. At first glance, these appear to be separate stories. They're not. They're both investments in resilience.
They're part of the same shift toward building supply chains capable of moving the world's most critical freight.
When we think about healthcare infrastructure, we picture hospitals, laboratories, and medical equipment.
But increasingly, patient care begins much earlier—at a border crossing, inside a refrigerated trailer, or in a temperature-controlled distribution center.
A shipment of specialty pharmaceuticals doesn't just depend on a truck. It depends on reliable power for refrigerated facilities, clean water for pharmaceutical manufacturing, fuel for transportation, telecommunications for shipment visibility, and efficient trade corridors to keep products moving without delay.
For healthcare organizations, resilient infrastructure is directly connected to patient care. Hospitals don’t have dedicated highways or trucking fleets. Many people think of hospitals, clinics, or laboratories as healthcare infrastructure. In reality, bridges, ports, highways, customs systems & trucking networks are equally critical because they keep medicines, blood products, diagnostics equipment, and life-saving supplies moving forward.
For years, we viewed these as separate systems. Transportation moved freight. Utilities provided power and water. Healthcare delivered patient care.
